The Unfrozen Toy Box

OVERVIEW

Created for LUMINO at Montréal’s Esplanade Tranquille, The Unfrozen Toy Box reimagines the outdoor skating rink as a large-scale interactive experience where movement, light, and play converge. The installation invites skaters to move through a series of visual worlds evolving in real time beneath their blades, turning the ice into a playful, living playground.

We developed a custom visual language inspired by the organic spread of the Cordyceps fungus. Through layered textures, seamless transitions, and precise architectural integration, the building appeared to come alive, blurring the line between digital narrative and physical structure.

Unreleased Footage

One of the project’s key challenges was to incorporate unreleased footage from The Last of Us into the visual experience, while maintaining the tension, the pacing, and the emotional weight of the series. We crafted bespoke transitions to embed these exclusive scenes seamlessly into the projection mapping, using the building’s geometry to amplify key moments.
